I bought one of the metal ones from Nordicware (I always think that using silicon is like cooking in a condom) and it was easy, although it did take slightly longer to cook than I thought it would. Joined the two halves together with buttercream, and iced the top with buttercream too. It worked perfectly.

Ha ha ha.....Mold is a town down the road from me. I thought you were local for a minute! (Would love to meet a fellow mumsnetter!)

Grin One thing I do with novelty shaped tins, particularly if they have fiddly bits, is to line them with tinfoil and press the foil carefully into all the nooks and crannies. It works really well. The cakes come out every time. And as long as the cake is allowed to cool for a bit, the foil peels off really easily too.
