what can i cook for you?

My dc are away for our anniversary next week, and in a fit of madness I suggested cooking a 3 course romantic meal for dh (hes booked us in a spa the next day, so he deserves something special) however it's now looming and all ofny recipe books serve four or more. And all the suggestions I findonline are fish based and dh hates fish.

So long story short, what would you cook for your dh? No time constraints or financial apply, and no toddler hanging off a leg so you're free to chose anything!

Or even what would you like served to you?

Thanks!

Moules mariner (sorry I know that's not the right spelling but on phone and DH could well hate it if it's all sea food he hates)
Or ripe figs with buffalo mozzarella and naice Italian ham
Or proper smoked salmon with all the bits
Or potted shrimp on toast.

Mains I would do something that would work cold the next day like a roast of what ever DH liked best with all trimmings. Or steak maybe.

Finally I'd like pavlova please.

LegoAcupuncture · 12/08/2012 09:04

Starter - something mushroom based

Main - pork chop, potatoes in some form, green beans, brocolli

Pud - pecan pie

DameEnidSpink · 12/08/2012 09:08

Me: caramelised onion and goats cheese tart, lamb tagine with fruited couscous followed by lemon tart and raspberries.

DH: steak and (proper deep fried) chips, cheesecake and a bottle of red

StarryEyedMama · 12/08/2012 09:13

Starter - either homemade pate with toast - its really easy or tapas bits
Main - Beef Wellington or Jamie Oliver's spicy lamb shanks
Pudding - Trio of puds - a mini pavlova, a mini cheesecake and something chocolatey in small portions or maybe a Choc fondue if feeling romantic!

I love moules marinare but it is all see food unfortunately. Pavlova I can do - I will send mango and passuionfruit Pavlova thoughts your way Grin

Dameenid- would that I could cook for you- you've described my perfect meal

For my dp his perfect meal would be:

Soup and nice crusty roll
Steak / beef Wellington- chips and veg
Choc fudge cake or crumble and custard

He wouldn't like anything too fancy- so I'd think about what your Dh loves eating and do good versions of it instead of something posh which he may not be into.

Oh and serve in sexy undies/ dress and heels (that would out do any food!!)

Agree with those who say a good steak, with proper chips etc. And something chocolatey for pudding.

Start with some nice bubbles and follow with a good red wine. And get something nice for you to drink if you're off the booze so that you're not just drinking water or sugary soft drinks.

pregnantpause · 12/08/2012 09:40

Oh bubbles, wine and heels are a given, we haven't had two days alone for three years.

I do steak and chips regularly on the evening we eat alone (once a week after dc are in bed I do a meal for us) so I'm avoiding it as its not 'special' enough [hmmm]. Beef Wellington might cut the mustard.

Beef Wellington is yum! It's the dish DH and I have had for NY eve since the DC came along and we stay home. If you make it with yummy chopped mushroom, garlic and parsley (fried in butter first) between the meat and the pastry, all the lovely juices soak into that. Grin

ComradeJing · 12/08/2012 14:05

Passion fruit and mango pav...

The nigella chocolate and raspberry one is very, very good too if you haven't tried it.

Is there anything DH regularly orders when you eat out? What about some game?

pregnantpause · 12/08/2012 15:14

He veers toward game in restaurants, but the butcher hasn't had rabbit in a long time and venison is new to me and it must be hard to cook based on what resteraunts charge or it Grin
I'm thinking warm goats cheese and Parma ham salad, followed by duck breast (it's cheaper than the beef fillet at the minute) in raspberry sauce and then blueberry and white chocolate cheesecake.

Sounds wonderful. I might pinch some of those ideas for our wedding anniversary in a few weeks.
Enjoy Smile

surroundedbyblondes · 12/08/2012 15:59

Can I get your cheesecake recepie?

Taffeta · 12/08/2012 18:44

My DH would like a v spicy curry - either Indain or Thai
Then a chocolate truffle torte

milk · 14/08/2012 08:07

If you decide to only make 2 courses, can't the third course just be sex instead? :P

buggyRunner · 14/08/2012 10:07

If you go for venison get hind not stag (testosterone makes it awful)
