Can you over cook chicken, reason I ask is I bought slow cooker yesterday and am doing a chicken casserole have set it away at 12 today to go off around 4.30-5.00pm but its on high setting Grin

The meat will eventually fall to bits, but it will still taste nice.

as long as you have enough sauce/liquid so it doesn't dry out it should taste yummers.

Sorry to hijack the thread but do you rate "slow cookers"?. I have been tempted in the past but feared it would be yet another gadget languishing in a cupboard!!

i have read a few threads on here about slow cookers and tbh I was sick of running round like a blue arsed fly trying to get tea done on time (was having way too many convenience meals and I wanted dd to have what we were having) by getting the slow cooker means I have just chucked the lot in and don't have to do anything else, so no slaving over the hob and running back and forth to make sure I've not burnt ought Grin ps you can get them for about 20 quid in John Lewis

I love mine. Nothing like coming home to a lovely casserole, or chilli, or chicken. Only prob is browning meat etc first thing in the morning sometimes takes a strong stomach!
When dh and I both worked full time it was a godsend. Now I'm a SAHM, I just love getting to 4 ish and not having to think about what we're all going to have for supper! Plus you can use cheaper cuts of meat and they still taste fantastic.

I never brown anything satine. Couldnt face that at 6.30 in the morning. I really cant see an appreciable difference in the end result and it is a lot less hassle. Just chop everything up and bung it in raw. If you are worried about meat looking pale add gravy browning at the end.
