Children's cutlery

I have 3 DS (6,4 and 2) I really want DS1 and possibly DS2 to use some more grown up cutlery but not grown up cutlery IYSWIM. We used to have one set of steadyco cutlery which were fantastic but I can't seem to find them again. I don't want to spend a fortune really and wondered what other peoples children use.

I got several sets from the Poundshop, obviously not stunning quality but have lasted 3 mths perfectly fine no reason to think wont keep going. They are metal, no plastic and about 2/3rds normal size (ish).

I agree with Kiwi - I got some "value" cutlery from the much missed Woolworths which is ideal, slightly smaller than normal cutlery and very lightweight metal, but no silly animal patterns etc

I bought some sets from Zara Home when we were in Spain. Fairly sure you can buy online.

My DS (5) just uses the small knives and forks that come with the grown up set. You can often buy them individually from John Lewis.

Yes Poundland stuff is perfectly good as long as you don't need to do serious steak cutting, and it's simple stainless steel which is much more hard wearing and hygienic than stuff with plastic handles.

I think ikea does mini cutlery sets. We used to use the sets you get from boots, supermarket, etc that had plastic handles and the blade/fork/spoon bit was metal

vodkaanddietirnbru · 06/08/2012 18:36

you can personalise them too!

Kellamity · 06/08/2012 18:37

Ikea do some great sized cutlery and nicely priced too!

FamiliesShareGerms · 06/08/2012 18:39

Yes to Ikea. Most of the homeware Steamer Trading type shops have more expensive ranges, including Emma Bridgewater. TK Maxx often has nice kids cutlery sets, but obviously not all the time

DS uses the dessert knife and fork from our normal cutlery set

Thanks everyone, I will take a trip to the poundshop and see what they have. Ikea is a bit of a distance but I do love a trip there so could convince my DSis and DM to come for a day out. Our day to day cutlery did not have the dessert knife and fork and not sure if we want to start using our 'wedding' stuff yet. A good idea though. Lots of food for thought if you excuse the pun!
