I'm doing something wrong! The only cakes I've made have been flat, and my fairy cakes kind of separated in the oven.

I don't have the instruction book in English (dh bought it in a duty free shop in Israel) but if it's vital information can get it translated easily enough. Haven't found much on the internet.

Can someone please point me in the direction of a website, book or recipes that are idiot proof eg mix on no.2 for 3 minutes? Dh was rather hoping for a constant supply of lovely baked goods....

I'm not sure why the cakes are misbehaving.

When I use mine I use the flat beater (not the hook or the whisk one) and don't turn it up past 4.

Does that help? :)

I also only mix it till I think it looks done, so not very long.

ditavonteesed · 01/08/2012 09:42

thats interesting, my first cake was light as air then a few more were flat, I think I left it on too long and beat it too high, so maybe less is more. also congratulations on your new arrival :)

Thanks - maybe I got too enthusiastic with my mixing! I'm having another go later so will report back.

I am the opposite to When I use the whisk for my cakes, mix until just mixed through properly, scrape to bowl, another quick whisk and into the tin and oven.

HAve you had cake success before without the KA? Could it be your oven?

goingmadinthecountry · 01/08/2012 09:56

My cakes are absolutely fine by hand or with the £10 Tesco hand mixer so it can't be the oven. I'm determined to succeed today! Pity I'm on a low carb diet....

Success! Was obviously over beating. Thank you for the pointers.

Don't over mix. I think it's something to do with gluten breaking down ( may be talking rubbish). I have had this problem and mix on 1 or 2 for a short time, scrape the bowl and then mix again for a short time. I love my kitchen aid Gin

Grin not gin. Oops!! Must be on the mind!!
