Snacks for 14 month old with milk allergy

My 14 months old DS is has been diagnosed with allergic colitis. He's been ill since he was born, and we finally had a diagnosis 6 weeks ago. It's great to finally now what it is, but has made feeding him a little more tricky.

I think we've finally got main meals sorted. We've found lots of things that don't have milk in, and he can have soya yoghurts and soya milk. I batch cook as much as I can so he always has a stash of shepherds pie and such that I can give him.

Snack are a little more tricky and I wondered if anyone had any ideas. He doesn't like much fruit or veg (though I sneak them into meals) so won't eat carrot sticks or banana etc. I don't want to give him too many biscuits or sweet stuff but I'm struggling for alternatives. He'll eat yoghurts until they come out of his ears, but I'd like something that he can feed himself. He loves finger food.

Any ideas? I tried bread sticks yesterday, but he tried it and then looked at me as if to say "what can I dip it in? It's dull!" then threw it at the (very grateful) dog.

Hello and welcome to the world of milk allergy. Not that bad once you get used to it. It's great news that your DS has finally been diagnosed and you know what you can do for him to feel better! Have you decided what to use as his main milk substitute? My 2 yo DS has Kara during the day, and Aptamil Pepti 2 in a bottle at night.
You may find that by posting this question on the allergies board under Health you'll get more replies.
I started a thread last year on convenience food for allergic DCs: here's a link.
It's aimed at those with DCs with multiple allergies, but you may find something useful there anyway.
HTH!

Thank you. It's great to have some answers, but it's still a little complicated, and taking me a while to get used to. It's frustrating checking every label too!

Will have a read of your thread, and pop over to the allergies board too.

Thanks again!

You know what? I have a dairy allergic 22 month old son so I came on here to give you the benefit of my extensive research and snack guide, but I realised that he eats a combination of a banana, flapjack, maltloaf, breadsticks in hummus and smoothies for snacks. Its rubbish really. I must try and widen our repertoire.

I have a milk allergy too. It's not the worse thing in the world tbh.

He could have hummus to dip bread sticks in or toasted pitta breads.

Or seafood fish sticks (those pink things that taste of crab).

Aldi do a belgian fair trade dark choc thats very nice, not too dark.

Boiled eggs would fill him up a bit and are healthy.

Cooked chicken breast cut into strips, dipped into mayo?.

If he isnt into fruit or veg proteins the way to go, filling and healthy.
