Breakfast on the go?

I'm just changing from being on ML to going back to study 3 days a week.

We used to have a great routine of dropping DD1 to kindergarten then DD2 & I coming home for a leisurely breakfast. This doesn't even come close to working now.

I need ideas for a grab&go breakfast for me (I'm managing to get porridge into both girls before we leave house).
The morning goes like this: walk DD1 to school, walk home (15 mins), drive DD2 to creche, 10 minute drive to bus station, 30 minutes on bus.

At the moment I end up buying a black coffee at the bus station & then I'm starving when I get to uni & end up buying crap.

And, to complicate matters, I can't have egg or dairy thanks to DD2's allergies.

Help please! If I don't get breakfast sorted, the stone I've managed to shift in the past 3 months will all pile back on!

sandwiches (boring if you have them for lunch too)

pieces of fruit or make up a pot of fruit salad.

If you can get non-dairy yoghurt, then yoghurt with fruit and muesli

Teacake; croissant; pain au chocolat

Sistema do a great pot that has space for muesli or cereal in the bottom and a cup for yogurt or milk in the top (non dairy of course). Dh has one for when he doesn't have time to eat before he heads to work.

I will look for a link.

You could also make low fat and sugar banana muffins with lots of oats in them which are easy to make non dairy and are lower fat that way too.

Another option would be low sugar banana flapjacks. They keep you going for ages.

sistema breakfast on the go

Boiled eggs and cracker bread might also be an option.

Make a berry salad and dump in a Tupperware with a spoon.

Muesli pots from dorset cereals now available and are yum

Thanks for the ideas.

Fruit salad etc might work if I can get myself together enough to make it the night before.

I love the sistema idea, but, being a bit difficult, I can't stand non-dairy milk substitutes. I can just about put up with them in cooking, but by themselves, I just can't.

Muffins etc sound like a good idea too. I'm definitely not against baking if necessary. And they could double up for DD1's lunchbox treat. I'd love to find a croissant that didn't have dairy. My standard breakfast when I was working (before DD2 & before all the dairy restrictions) was a latte, croissant and a bowl of fruit (at a cafe... which is out of the budget now too Sad)

banana and oatcakes
or can't you have porridge with your kids?

vvviola · 20/07/2012 09:39

Jkklpu - I just don't have time to eat. While DD1 is eating, I'm feeding DD2, getting bottles ready etc. And then it's getting dressed & out the door etc.

I did manage half a slice of toast this morning, but that was because DH was home and helped supervise the getting dressed stage & sorted DD2's nappy while I had my shower. He won't be there most of the time though as he usually leaves around 6am.
Maybe when we've had a bit more practice at getting everyone out the door, but at the moment it's just not happening.
