Cook-ahead recipes for taking to caravan

Some suggestions wanted please. It's a static caravan and has a fridge, freezer and oven so not impossible to cook, but we're planning on being out all day so would like to take stuff ready made that I can bung in the oven.

Oven is a bit crap and heats things really slowly.

There will be five of us - me, my parents, boys seven and five.

Cous Cous is good as you only need to pour boiling water over it :)

i know that asda do a large 'tray bake' sausage pasta dish....big enough for a large family, just chuck it in the oven and hey presto... happy holidaying :)

How about a spanish chicken dish - chopped chicken breast, chopped chorizo, chopped peppers, tinned tomatoes and some paprika. Cook in advance and freeze to take with you.

Also Moroccan chicken - chicken breast, onion, chopped dried apricots, ras al hanout, tinned tomatoes and chopped coriander, again cooked in advance and frozen.
I tend to take a couple of things frozen for the first and second nights then make things like nachos and hotdog pasta etc for the rest of the week that we don't eat out.
I often take the uncle ben's pouches of rice and a nando's marinade with us because with the addition of some chicken, salad, pitta bread and corn on the cob can make a huge meal.

Assuming you have a hob also, what about chilli? Freeze it and it will also act as an icepack in the coolbag on the way down Grin

How about getting some pizza bases etc. to make pizzas one night? Easier to store than trying to fit enough pizza for 5 in the fridge.

Spag bol (tho' it's very similar to chilli)

Oh, what about putting together some lamb kebabs? If you have a BBQ, then these with couscous and salad would do another meal.

Thanks, some good ideas there.

I'm not assuming it will be BBQ weather as we're going to Whitby! So will definitely be out one night for fish and chips.....

You could boil a piece of gammon, for eating cold with some new potatoes.

Get a slow cooker. Buy packs of diced meat or sausages. Buy prepped veg. Add meat, veg and sason, pour over a bit of boiling water and leave for the day.

There's some fab fish and chip shops in Whitby - make good use of those.
We tend to make a "first night bologneise" made in advance, frozen and defrosted during the day while we travel.

I find any mexican food quick and easy. Tacos or fajitas especially. (tin of refried beans - dips, salads, rice??)

We also try to eat out for lunch one day - having a main meal for lunch and then have a soup and toastie night in the evening. Those dried packet pasta type soups are great for carvaning.

There's a nice place in Whitby called Humble Pie, which is an old fashioned pie and mash place. It's really reasonably priced too, so you could maybe do that on one night and fish and chips on another.

A pan of soup (made ahead) plus bread and cheese, followed by a crumble (made ahead) and icecream would be good one evening, maybe?

Or pasta and pesto, with salad - and maybe some crumbled feta for the adults, would be v quick and easy.

Spanish omelette should travel pretty well and last for a day or two. Just needs nice bread and salad and maybe a few other tapas bits to go with it.
