every time i cook it, it seems a bit dry.
we're not talking a posh joint, but one of those 750g supermarket vac-packed jobbies.

so oven? boil? bit of both? timings?

thanks.

I don't know but I love

a. your name and
b. the fact that you used the conjunction "so as to".

That's all.

I steep mine for 24hrs to get rid of salt.
Then put it on tin foil in oven tray and pour in a can of cider. Cover with more tin foil, sealing it in and bake for as long as suitable for weight. Take off the foil and cover in brown sugar and bake for ten more minutes.
Did this for Christmas and was the best ham we'd ever eaten.

A slow cooker is what you need here. Cooks a supermarket gammon beautifully.

I use a slow cooker, with a tin of pineapple tipped over it Grin

slartybartfast · 15/07/2012 18:51

i boil it, and if it is waitrose, it is lovely Grin
or sometimes i boil, then roast, bit dry but delicious
and i like the saltiness

Steep in water for 12 hours to rid of salt then boil for a couple of hours with a couple of pepper corns bay leaf, carrot and onion. Normally I do a mustard and honey baste afterwards and put it in a hot oven or grill for 15 minutes. Yummy.

Nigella's cooking it in coke works even for cheapy gammon joints. Yummm... Grin

Or, what Lula said...

whatinthewhatnow · 15/07/2012 18:55

when I cooked one in the slow cooker it ended up sitting in a lake of fat. it was too for words. maybe i'll try slow cooking with the pineapple (like the easiness of that) then in a hot oven to finish off for 15 mins or so.

I get a similar joint from sainsbo and I boil it with an onion and a couple of bay leaves for about 40 mins then drain, dry and chuck it in a hot oven for 20 mins. Have never use the cola method but I have heard that is very nice!

i did it in coke for about 50min, than a quick blast in the oven with some honey on. 'Twas all moist and lovely Smile.
