........... to nursery teachers/parents end of year drinks.
I will have to prepare the night before & my mind is slightly blank.

Any stunning ideas or something a little bit different but tasty to take along?

what about Delia's bloody mary tomatoes? you make them a couple of daysin advance and leave to marinate. Can dig out recipe if liked?

storminabuttercup · 09/07/2012 22:26

OP what about tapas type things? Easy to prepare.

Or tortilla?

Pancakeflipper · 09/07/2012 22:28

Oh I need to go to bed. I thought you just had to take a plate.

Was thinking how odd.

But it's clicked... food.

We have often done this:

tuna steaks cut into smallish cubes, marinated in a drizzle of olive oil and Thai spice()over night if possible)

Cook in oven gas mark 6 for 10-15mins.

Dig out the mini-cocktail sticks to stab them with and dip in a chilli dipping sauce or even better a mango sauce.

And stand right next to them so none else gets to eat them, then stuff your face.

Breadsticks with cold meats like prosciutto wrapped around them.

You can decorate the plate with olives and feta.

tassisssss · 09/07/2012 22:33

Fruit platters are simple and surprisingly popular.

Bite sized choc brownies?

Smoked salmon blinis?

indian I have looked at your blog and I don't know if it's because I'm on my iPad but it is very jumbled and hard to navigate.

Just thought I'd let you know before you are deleted for breaking the rules.

re op... buy an egg slice (they're like £2).

Use it to slice some mushrooms. Saute them. Dice an onion. Add it to the pan. Dice a garlic. Add it. Add salt. Add grated Red Leicester. Spoon a bit into the centre of a tortilla, fold up then down then left then right, bake at 180 for 10 mins. Mushroom enchilladas

AnnaMosity · 10/07/2012 01:12

Why can't you slice mushrooms with a knife ?

AnnaMosity · 10/07/2012 01:13

Easier is a wrap. Philly. Salmon (smoked)
Roll.cling film fridge. Slice pinwheels

Is most transportable too
Or home made sausage rolls with chilli jam

luisgarcia · 10/07/2012 01:35

you can slice mushrooms with a knife, it's just faster and gets a more consistent thickness to use an eggslice. which makes a better saute. which for £2 is p cool

Jacksmania · 10/07/2012 02:04

I thought the same as pancakeflipper :o

"What, just a plate? How odd!"

I have no excuse, it's only 6 pm here. Maybe I should be having wine.

How about hummus and tortilla chips? I have a really good hummus recipe.

Jacksmania · 10/07/2012 02:05

Oh, re-read op and see you want stunning and different. Def not hummus then !

HipHopOpotomus · 10/07/2012 10:18

Thank you all for the great suggestions.

When I was a kid in NZ Mum used to go to parties and it was always "ladies a plate please" (men were not trusted with plates and brought a bottle Grin).

Just before sleep last night I remembered nigellas dish where you wrap dried fig and goat cheese in Parma ham - delicious and no cooking!!! So that might be the one.

There are several Spanish Mums who have got tapas etc covered.

Fruit plate good idea too. Wink. I'll make the mushroom wraps at home!
