Cake in a Pyrex bowl???!!!

Ok, I am on my 2nd failed cake of the day.!! I am using a pampered chef batter bowl and trying to make a 'dolls skirt' cake.
First one I didn't put enough mixture in - ended up sinking in the middle and being a very heavy cake.
Second attempt I greased and floured the bowl, used a 8:8:8:4 mixture and have been baking on 125' fan oven for an hour. It is still runny in the middle and I know this because it has sunk so much I can see in the very centre of the uncooked cake!!!
Any suggestions??? It's dd birthday saturday so I have to crack it tomorrow!!

I've done this using a Madeira cake recipe denser cake for decorating, has always taken longer than recipe says.
Try a 4 egg Madeira recipe, bowl should be about 3/4 full, put a circle of baking paper in the bottom just to help it come out cleanly.

I tried this the other week using a Madeira recipe, it was still sticky in the middle after 95 min (20 min longer than the recipe said). I am going to try a standard sponge mix next, it's for a ladybird cake. I have another week to perfect it...

I'm surprised that your cake sunk though, did you open the oven door at all? Apologies if I'm telling you something you already know, but you should never open the door until at least half the cooking time has expired, preferably three quarters.

125°C??? Way too cool

You need 160° and it will take ages.
I haven't done one that big, but I seem to remember that even 2-3 eggs takes best part of an hour.

Have you got Nigella's Domestic Goddess book? I can't lay hands on it tonight, but I do remember that she did a Barbie cake - which I tried when DD was young and it was really successful.

I make a cake mix in a pyrex bowl as a pudding but it is cooked in the microwave. As you don't need it to brown you could try that and it would be much quicker.

There are lots of microwave sponge recipes on Google if you think it's worth a try.

Starballbunny, i agree thats way to low for cakes, i alays cook mine on 160 also, made two this weekend both were fine if anything the cooking time isnt as much as book suggests, 1hr 40mins it says, but find mine cooks in 1hr 20.

Thanks all, I turned the oven down on attempt 2 after reading it should be cooked on a 'low heat' but it was clearly too low.
There was oven opening as I had no idea how long it would take.
I took the Madeira cake idea and it worked!! Oh my goodness it looked amazing! I have never been so proud Grin thanks for all the advice - I now have a year til her next birthday to crack fondant!
