Italian main course ideas please - chicken/fish/veg

I'm cooking an Italian themed meal for some friends, and I can't decide what to serve for main course. I want something fairly authentic and 'proper' - not just a bowl of pasta (though could be pasta if it's something a bit special). No red meat. And ideally something that I could at least partly make in advance, though that's not essential. Any thoughts?

How about aubergine parmigiana? It's really easy and can be made in advance. Serve with with a lovely big green salad. Jamie Oliver's Italian cookbook is very good.

Or anything from
Antonio Carluccio

If you can get it try some limoncello liqueur to round off the meal.

Chicken Cacciatora

My italian friend often serves casserole-type dishes like braised pork in milk on large platters surrounded by freshly-made polenta.

Thanks for the suggestions. I really wanted to do pork in milk, but one of the guests doesn't eat pork. I like both the parmigiana and the chicken ideas (maybe parmigiana with some roast fish?). Any more ideas very welcome.

Please find attached recipes for a Pancetta wrapped cod a a main course you could serve this with a rustic salad and foccacia as a main course using the other two side dishes to add real interest and a wow factor.

Home made gnocci. Delish with duck ragu sauce.

I had some lovely fish (monkfish I think) in a restaurant in Italy a few years ago that was simply grilled and ten served with a squeeze of lemon and lots of fresh chopped parsley. Had some roasted peppers and courgettes with it, and it was just delicious.

If you do opt for pasta, my favourite pasta dish this time of year is a summery bowl of farfalle with fresh salmon, asparagus, fresh peas and cream. It's very tasty and definitely special enough for a dinner party.

Or you could go the whole hog and offer pasta or risotto followed by a meat or fish main course - that's what I'd do, off had time.

Sorry, weird iPad autocorrect messed up my last sentence.
