Menu ideas for DDs 16th birthday in the style of vintage tea party please

That's it really. I have all the beautiful crockery and cake stands but can't think what to fill them with apart from cakes and sandwiches.

I'll probably have things like chicken, pasta, rice etc on another table.

Also, I need some simple cocktail recipes, preferably something pink. Any ideas.

Scones, sausage rolls, vol au vents, cocktail sausages, crumpets?

this book is great, you could try and get it in your local library or buy.

I used this site when I did a vintage tea party as a leaving party. Hope it helps

Oh yes. I'd forgotten about vol au vents, and I could add cheese and pickled onions to the sausages on sticks.

I know its not traditional but do you think I'd get away with spring rolls and samosas. I think they could look quite nice on a tiered (sp) plate.

Fivegomad, I've looked at that book a few times but the review talking about coddled eggs always puts me off. I have recently bought the primrose bakery cookbook, so I'm sorted for cakes. DD also wants a pink chocolate fountain, so we have plenty of sweet things.

It's really savory bites I need ideas on.

Don't be put off by the coddled eggs, it is a lovely book, gave it to my SIL last Christmas and she raves about it.

I think I'll have a look at it in waterstones then. I have a voucher to spend there and I can flick through it before I buy it :-)

I'm doing something similar for my dd's 18th....must confess I'll be mostly taking the M & S route....mini fruit tarts, profiteroles, cupcakes & mini fritatta's. Homemade scones with jam & clotted cream. A selection of sandwiches smoked salmon & cream cheese, cream cheese & cuc, egg & cress etc and I'll be doing champagne cocktails...( cheap fizzy wine, with a raspberry & a dash of raspberry liquer). Just need nice weather so we can sit in the garden.

I'd keep it fairly simple - sarnies, baby quiches, perhaps some 'posh' sausage rolls and carrot sticks, cucumber batons, celery etc then go mad on the cakes - scones, fruit tarts, a big Vicotia sponge etc. Cheese straws might be nice?

For cocktails - do you mean alcoholic ones? In that case, I'd probably just go for a couple of jugs of Pimms and either Bellinis or a 'pink' version with Prosecco or cava, a bit of framboise and a raspberry.

Vicotia = Victoria
