Is there anything I need to know when making a cake which some people who keep a Kosher diet will be eating?

Oh come on... I know it's Shabbatt and everthing...

I am poised with me flour and sugar and eyeing the milk, which I have my suspicions about...

I think its ok. Just don't mix it with meat.
Very lapsed here.

So there's no problem with the milk? I know I need to check out the eggs for 'bits'.

Bits in the eggs? really? Gosh, I know nothing!

Going off to have a bacon sarnie...

It depends what you are serving for dinner. If it is a meat meal, then it'd be best to leave out the milk and make sure you use dairy free marg rather than butter. Some people who keep kosher won't eat milk a certain amount of time after meat. Others will just not want them out at the same time.

It's just cake for a birthday.

I was told that the eggs needed to be cracked individually (which I do any way) and checked for those little flecks that look like tomato pips.

Maybe I'll stick to soya marg and leave out the milk. I guess water will do to make the mix sloppier if needs be.

Thanks...

The rules are you can have a meal/snack that either has meat in it or milk in it. So if it is just a cake, then you can have milk and butter in it. It is just if you are having a meal with meat in that you have to be careful.

Yes to the checking eggs though. You are getting rid of any that have blood spots in.

Well, I never knew that - about the eggs. Thank you! Those red bits are fairly rare though, aren't they? hmm maybe not!
