another buttercream question (sorry...)

How do I make white buttercream?
Even with the palest butter it still looks 'magnolia', and adding a drop of blue doesn't work either.
Help or its more pink again...

I use lurpack as it is the lightest colour, then the trick is to leave it mixing for ages, it just gets lighter and lighter in colour

thanks, I shall try that tomorrow....

Use one 250g block of butter to a 1kg box of icing sugar. Will need a good splash of milk to loosen it up. Beat it for ages and ages (a stand mixer is best for this, hand mixers don't have the motor capacity and blow easily) takes about 20 mins for lurpack, bit longer for asda's own.

If you want really white you can get suprwhite but I've never had to use it

yep Imnotsoslimjim, i've just bought some superwhite from my cakedecorating shop, after beating it for ages i added a few drops of superwhite and its whiter than ever, fab product have to admit, do fancy trying Swiss Meringue next though.

I went on a cupcake decorating course recently and the woman teaching the course doesn't use butter, she uses trex as it's pure white and also odourless and doesn't taste too buttery. I tested it on my DH and he much preferred it, even though he also likes normal buttercream.

She uses 100g Trex, 1tsp clear vanilla extract, 1/2 tsp of clear glycerine, 2-3 tsps of water, 250g icing sugar and 1.5tsp of merriwhite.

I creamed all the wet/fat ingredients first and then added the dry ingredients. I let it carry on doing it's thing for a good 10 mins and it was really light and fluffy.

I would say the only downside is that if you're piping it, you won't get a silky smooth finish, it's a bit more 'airy' if you see what I mean. Tastes great though!

And is pure white.
