KitchenAid flex edge beater - do I need one ?

I have a new KA Grin and a voucher to buy an accessory to go with it.

The flex edge beater claims to scrape the sides while beating (eg creaming butter and sugar). Do you have one, or wish you did?

I wish I had one! If you get it please let us know how you get on with it!

I will Smile

I take it you have a KA? Do you find you have to scrape the sides during mixing much?

Sorry for the late reply. I do have a KA and LOVE it. I have to scrape the sides probably once per ingredient mix.. what I mean is if I'm making cake and add the flour, then I'll mix it in, pause, scrape the sides and mix again. Same process for each addition (sugar, eggs etc). Does that make sense?

The flex edge beater looks like a great idea and if you find that it works well, then I am buying one for sure!

Ooh yes do let us know if it works. Like takingthestairs I'm always getting the spatula out to clean the edges so would get this if it's effective.

And would it get the mixture out from the very bottom of the bowl?

I also covet with a burning passion would quite like a glass bowl but purely because it looks pretty Grin

fatsatsuma · 29/06/2012 13:10

Right. It sounds like a good idea if you have to stop and scrape otherwise.

Just wondering if there's anyone else around who's actually got the flex edge beater and can tell us if it really works?

the reviews on Amazon are good.
ReelAround, someone even said that "very effectively eliminate the "dead spot" at the base of the bowl which the standard K-beater leaves".

Here are the reviews

fatsuma you've inspired me to order one. I'll let you guys know how I get on with it.

ReelAroundTheFountain · 29/06/2012 19:52

Ooh thank you! I feel bad ordering extra bits for mine as it cost so much to start with, but if it makes it more effective then I'll use it more. That's my argument for dh.

i use the kitchenaid constantly, and used a kitchenaid in my professional life as a pastry chef. I have never found it necessary to use anything other than the 3 fixtures provided. I just scrape the sides down halfway through mixing

takingthestairs · 02/07/2012 10:27

A professional pastry chef? Yummers! OhdearNigel, you must be very talented.

We (we being me and the OP) are hoping that the new accessory will eliminate the scraping. Obviously it's not 100% necessary, but it it's a new pretty toy might help in some small way.

It has arrived in today's post... can't wait to try it out. Now what shall I make first.....

forcookssake · 04/07/2012 21:50

ooh I will be so interested to see how it works!

PigeonPair · 08/07/2012 17:50

I ordered one from Amazon. Not bad but I still have to scrape the sides, even after adjusting the height of the beater. Sorry to rain on your parade!!

stealthsquiggle · 08/07/2012 22:18

I bought one (not KA branded as I have a different model and the normal one doesn't fit) and it does indeed save having to scrape the bowl down - I love it [lazy]

takingthestairs · 09/07/2012 09:55

I used my new rubber edged beater yesterday for the first time. It did save me having to scrape the sides, so I was very happy with that. Was it revolutionary... no. But I think it will make more of a difference for things like buttercream and large volume cakes.
