Any suggestions as to what I can do with them?

Neither DD1(3.8) or DD2(14m) are particularly impressed by me steaming them & I have a load in the garden that need eating!

Would they like them if you blend them into a dip?

spilttheteaagain · 26/06/2012 21:28

Hey bessie! 14 months, blimey, seems like yesterday we were on Charters...

Broad beans: this is delicious. It's got bacon in and IIRC you are veggie? If so I would leave out the bacon and put in a bit of garlic instead. The lemony dressing is delicious. I often use a normal onion finely chopped and softened in oil as tend not to have spring onions to hand.

Or blanche the beans and freeze them on trays to use later in the year?

AuntieMaggie · 26/06/2012 21:29

i once had them in a carvery restaurant in a creamy sauce with leeks

miniwedge · 26/06/2012 21:33

I do broadbean burgers.

Blanch then blitz with breadcrumbs, 1 egg yolk, Parmesan, salt and pepper and some sage leaves sautéed in butter.

Then shallow fry and serve in a bun with salad and mayo etc.

Hope you are well?! That does sound yummy & I am impressed you remember I am veggie! - Perhaps I could try it with some pretend bacon...

A dip is a great idea cucumber & if they don't like it, I could have it in my sandwiches the next day!

Maggie DD1 refuses point blank to eat leeks!

mmmmm mini burgers sound GOOD - but I am veggie, so no parmasan for me Sad Perhaps some nice strong cheddar instead!?

I have done it with blue cheese as well which is nice. Strong cheddar would be lovely I think. Smile

Oolong! I forgot to add garlic And small finely chopped shallot is nice fried off with the sage leaves and then bunged in.

spilttheteaagain · 27/06/2012 16:57

We're fine thanks bessie, DD2 is 10 months now and just taken her first independent steps on Sunday!

I love the burger idea, am filing that away for if when my plants produce.

smearedinfood · 27/06/2012 20:09

If it's just you broad beans go really well with feta

cubscout · 27/06/2012 21:13

Broad bean and bacon risotto is nice.

bessie26 · 27/06/2012 21:26

Shock at baby-splits steps! My DD2 is 14m & has only just started cruising! (lazy baby!)

smeared - do you mean cold in a salad, or warm so the cheese goes a bit melty? I do give the DC feta occasionally (they both LOVE greek salad) so might share it with them!

Another bacon idea from cub! I'm definately going to have to go buy some vegetarian bacon!

If you can be bothered steaming them and slipping them out of their baggy skins they will lik them better (but maybe you already do that) Goats cheese and bbeans omelette is yum and put them with anything salty-i like fea and bacon

piebald · 27/06/2012 21:31

Oops i mean feta

Chocchip88 · 27/06/2012 21:32

Jamie's summer veg lasagne (you can google it, can't link on phone - sorry!) is lovely. It's from his 30 min meals book so quick and easy too

spilttheteaagain · 27/06/2012 22:15

Ooh choc I love the look of the summer veg lasagne, just been too tight to buy the asparagus, fresh pasta and cottage cheese! The tuscan bread & tomato salad that accompanies it is however, divine. If you have a tomato glut bessie I highly recommend that!
