Help - gingerbread

'm trying to cook Gingerbread a la Nigella for the pre-school teatime tomorrow. But I can't for the life of me find black treacle anywhere in Cambridgeshire. (well Ok, Waitrose or any of the village shops). Can I just substiture golden syrup - which is already in the recipe? Or is there anything else I can use instead (that I or the local co-op is likely to have)?

and what are molasses that are in all the Aemrican recipes I have found?
Please please please help

think that means treacle too.

Just using syrup would be fine, just make them lighter in colour and flavour

or runny honey works as well - darker the better.

oooo, yum!

Thank you - ended up replacing dark treacle with half honey and half extra syrup, and they were delish.
