Hi there, now i'm not a new mum, or to baking, so you would have thought this was an easy answer, but baking is so pricise. I've treated myself to 8 inch silicone (tin lol) but all my recipies are for 7 1/2inch tins, and as i'm recreating a cake for my daughters 30th, that she had when she was 6, I need help so please jump in and help me please.........

thank you

Using some Maths from school (you never thought you would need it again!) the surface area of the 7.5 inch diameter tin is 44.2 sq in and the surface area of the 8 in tin is 50.3 sq in, an increase of about 14%. So, for the mixture to fill the tins to the same depth you need to increase the quantities in the recipe by about 14% - i.e. 100g would increase to 114g etc - eggs are a bit tricky but you might say just use large or extra large instead of medium. I'd have thought baking time would be reasonably similar. Good luck!

I wouldnt worry about the half inch, just watch the last few mins of cooking time.

nannycook · 25/06/2012 21:40

Deidra, are you using a round or sqaure tin as the quantities are different?

Deidra · 26/06/2012 15:53

Deidra, this recipe is the one i use for all my decorated chocolate cakes as it keeps well, for an 8inch cake, 165grms soft butter, 300grms caster sugar, 2 tsp vanilla extract not the essense type, 3 eggs, 65grms s/r flour, 200grms plain flour, 1 tsp bicarb, 70grms of cocoa powder, 250ml milk, 180, normal oven 160 fan for an hr, i dont normally add all the milk and mix it alternatively with the four and cocoa .
