Bay leaves, Laurel leaves, Greek cooking

I have a bay tree, and a laurel bush. A Greek friend has asked for some bay leaves for cooking, but points to the laurel bush (which has large, waxy, variegated leaves and a white sap) and says from that.

Do people really cook using leaves from a laurel bush? I find it hard to believe it is not a mistake.

Yes you can, but the leaves haveto be dried first.

I was told laurel is poisonous and that bay is the edible form. Check it out before giving her any!
