Chocolate icing which will be firm enough to wrap in paper napkins please.

I've made the cake, now I need to do the icing. It has to be quite firm and non-gooey when dry as I'm going to slice it up and wrap it in paper napkins for the guests to take away.

I have two big bars of chocolate, icing sugar, butter and some willing helpers.

Any ideas?

Just melt the chocolate on it, Spidey. It will dry hard.

er - no idea as i can only make gooey drippy icing ,sorry ! Can only suggest making it as thick as poss and whacking it in the fridge when iced

I don't have enough chocolate franny. Also I want it to have a bit of give. I find if it's just chocolate it cracks when you cut it. However I don't know what to add to make it a tad more plyable.

Could do jj. Then when it melts in their party bags it'll be their parents picking up the pieces.

Add some EBM?

Sorry, I am no help at all. I shall leave you in piece and hope some sensible people will come along.

(but, really, doesn't the icing always come off? It's traditional)

spidermama - you are no longer responsible for cake once it has left your house

misty · 25/02/2006 16:43

sm - you could melt the chocolate and then mix in some melted butter and icing sugar, I'd say approx quantities 4oz icing, 2oz butter and 4 oz chocolate, or double if you want to fill the cake as well. Once icing is made slap on cake and then stick it in the fridge until set.

HTH!

the one i made the other week (from a book from the library on cupcakes!) also had some cream in it, in case it hadn't already furred up enough arteries..

jenniferjuniper · 25/02/2006 16:52

Hausfrau - you have just made me slobber on the keyboard .yum yum yum - just texting dp with choc shopping instructions .

spidermama · 25/02/2006 16:55

Indeed you dare hausfrau but I can't get out of the house without taking four kids with me. That's not going to happen.

I'm going to try yours misty. Thanks. I'm aiming for a castle as I have knight and fairy to put on. My cakes always end up like the kids have done it all themselves, but they taste ok.

ooh a castle sounds lovely (slobbers some more)

spidermama · 25/02/2006 22:26

That worked misty, thanks. I added a little bit of milk at the end as it was slightly stiff.

No christie it's for her little bro who's four tomorrow. We've just finished the party. Phew! Sadly we had lucky dip with a box full of polystyrene packing bits. There ensued an indoor snowstorm and it took us hours to clear up the polystyrene.

She hasn't quite recovered from the hair horror. She has been under sentence of school telling off all weekend and has to face the music tomorrow. I feel a bit like a traitor, but there you go.
