DD's godfather coming for dinner on Tuesday.
He is a really fussy bugger particular about food.

Any suggestions?
Any cheap suggestions, even better? Don't want to spend a King's ransom.

IME, people who are like this are the meat-and-two-veg type.

So, potatoes, veg, pork or lamb chop, or roast chicken.

PoppyWearer · 17/06/2012 20:40

X-post!

HecateTrivia · 17/06/2012 20:43

beans on toast, served with a 'don't you DARE complain, you fussy bugger' stare Grin

thinkfast · 17/06/2012 20:46

Baked potato with a choice of fillings and salad?

thinkfast · 17/06/2012 20:46

Sorry see you might be trying to make something nice. I'd say a roast

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 17/06/2012 20:48

Roasted chicken breasts/legs (cheaper) with roast veg and new potatoes - we had this for dinner today and was yum and easy - just put it all in the oven

Homemade beef burgers with wedges

Veg & Chicken/Lamb kebabs with cous cous/pasta

Pasta carbonara

Sausage Casserole & mash

Pork chop and veg

Chicken wrapped in streaky bacon stuffed with Philly + veg

Quiche, new potatoes, salad

Roast dinner

Chicken & mushroom pie + veg

Quite a lot of options!

SardineQueen · 17/06/2012 20:49

Got to be a roast, I reckon.
Or toad in the hole
That sort of thing

deepfriedcupcake · 17/06/2012 20:54

Mmm, toad in the hole, with mash and plenty of gravy. Yummy.

mamababa · 17/06/2012 22:30

Can't be toad in the hole it's all wrong without onion gravy Smile

MerylStrop · 17/06/2012 22:31

egg and chips and be done

FrillyMilly · 17/06/2012 22:34

This thread could be about my DH! His favourite meal is steak and chips so maybe that?

deepfriedcupcake · 17/06/2012 22:37

Mmm, onion gravy. Yummy :)

Gettheetoanunnery · 18/06/2012 09:47

How can anyone not like garlic and onion? It goes in everything!

UptoapointLordCopper · 18/06/2012 21:18

One of my aunts is a member of a really strict Buddhist sect and she doesn't eat anything of the leek family - onions, garlic, leek, chives etc. And she's vegetarian (but not vegan). I did roasted vegetables - mushrooms, peppers, asparagus, aubergines etc with plenty of rosemary and thyme and bay. If visitor eats meat then I'd simply roast everything either plainly or with herbs. Easy. Grin

SardineQueen · 18/06/2012 21:49

YY - jain?

Also some people have a bad reaction to onion and garlic in the stomach dept. I can't really eat raw onion any more Sad

UptoapointLordCopper · 19/06/2012 09:55

Not sure which religion. She's stuck to it at least 20 years already (not a proselyting type, obviously, if we still don't know what it's about Grin) despite some family not supportive. Respect due.

CharminglyOdd · 19/06/2012 09:58

From that description it could be my Dad Grin Years of pain experience has taught me that all he wants is plain good quality sausages, potatoes and some kind of vegetable.

I'd also recommend whatever you do that you put the dishes in the middle and let people help themselves... "No thanks, I don't like/won't eat XYZ" becomes annoying after the third offering when plating up.

ethelb · 19/06/2012 12:19

i had a friend who didn't like onion or garlic so i never ate with them

spilttheteaagain · 19/06/2012 21:58

Oh lord. If I couldn't start with onion and garlic I'm not sure I could cook! Go to pub...

RevoltingChildren · 19/06/2012 22:05

That would be me then except I do eat white fish but not cheese or pasta

Can't go wrong with a roast dinner.

ethelb · 20/06/2012 16:57

@revolting children what do you do if you go to a friends house for dinner?

not having a go, I am genuinly interested.
