Enid · 24/02/2006 18:54

hope you sent him to bed with no story

ScummyMummy · 24/02/2006 18:54

Mine can be like this- hate mixed up foods like stew or spag bol. Drives me mad.

doormat · 24/02/2006 18:55

cod my dd2 has been like this from very early age
she is still like this now
she can eat burgers and sausage etc but it is the texture of meat that she cant eat
sounds weird iykwim but it is true

Enid · 24/02/2006 18:57

beef is quite, challenging.

is he ok with chicken?

NomDePlume · 24/02/2006 19:00

My DS2 has always been this way. He's 12 and chews and chews and chews red meat until it is stringy and dry and impossible to swallow. He then sits there whining, p*ssing everyone at the table off. Dh lets him leave the table with a few forkfuls left on the plate, if he insists on DS2 eating everything, no matter how long it takes/how cold it gets then DS2 promptly gets up from the table and chucks it all back up again once he has finished. Drives us utterly insane. We avoid giving him red meat now.

at the idea of mini-Cod being a veggie!

There's apparently a reason why it's common for small children to find complicated dishes, with flavours and textures all mixed together, repellent. Something to do with being 'supertasters' IIRC - having very sensitive palates. I came across the concept here (from someone who knew much more than me about it, obviously) and it made instant sense to me (not that I was a fussy eater as a child, you understand...).

Flibbertygibbet · 24/02/2006 19:07

Get some highly processed meat from Tescos for him instead

How old is he? Can he help you prepare/cook it? Do you think that would help?

Mazzystar · 24/02/2006 19:15

offer him a tofu and mung bean salad instead next time you have it.

it did my head in tbh as she will eat processed meat but not a chop, steak etc
it is frustrating
hope he grows out of it

gingernut · 24/02/2006 19:39

BBC info on supertasters here and a test to see if you are one here .

My ds1 is like this too - he doesn't like to chew meat and likes quite bland food. I come out on the test as a supertaster and I guess he might be too.

ds1 was like this but he seems to be growing out of it. He's 9.

gingernut · 24/02/2006 22:49

? I said I talk as I eat (cos I do!) and it said I was a supertaster.

jowen · 24/02/2006 22:52

Wow, I am a supertaser in every way! But I am not what I would call fussy with food, I am too fat actually. I was a very fussy child though, would not eat at all.

I don't like grapefruit, coffee, salty bacon, over salted crisps or chocolate though, chocolate actually makes me gag!
