How can I make these oat cookies softer?

Made this good food recipe. The biscuits are delicious but really jaw breakingly hard. The kids prefer a chewier cookie. Any ideas?
50 g soft butter
50 g light brown sugar
2tbsp condensed milk
50g rolled oats
85g whole meal self raising flour
They were baked for 25 mins at 150g. Maybe all I need to do is undercook them a bit. Or should I change the proportions of the recipe?

Some golden syrup maybe or honey? and take them out when they are just cooked and cover with a tea towel as they cool.

I would just undercook them. Take them out of the oven when they are still gooey in the middle. Cookies always harden up as they cool so if you take them out a bit earlier when they cool they shouldn't get as hard iyswim

The recipe looks yummy!

Glucose syrup or golden syrup and soak the oats in the warmed milk for 20 mins first

They are always hard first thing out, immediately after the cool off.

Just leave them for a day or two.

Basil, I don't understand the 'leave the cookies for a day or two' comment Grin.

I always add honey when biscuit and cookie making.

BasilDonna · 13/06/2012 20:10

Sorry, that was completely uncalled for!

Adding a little bit of water to make the dough a bit softer usually makes similar cookies a bit chewier at home.

Turn the oven down to 130 degrees and cook for the same amount of time

AppleAndBlackberry · 13/06/2012 20:42

To clarify, I mean set it to 130 degrees, not turn it down...

Thanks all. Will try under baking first as I am trying to keep them 'healthy' so don't want to add syrup etc. they are really tasty, just tricky for dd to get a nibble of!

Honey works the same as golden syrup but is healthier. Most brownie recipes have golden syrup in but i always swap it for honey. Likewise, swap butter for light mayo. I promise it works.

hi to you koo koo, not sure if you've perfected your cookies yet but i have a foolproof recipe for lovely chewy ones that never fails. 100grms of gran sugar, 100grms butter, 1 tbsp of golden syrup, 150grms of s/r flour, a bag of choc chips, cream butter and sugar, add syrup and beat again, add half the flourwith choc chips and mix in, then add other half put in heaps ( dont flatten) i cook on 170 fan for 12-15 mins til pale as they firm up after.
