Would you give this to your DC?

I made a creamy chicken pie and mash on Saturday evening as its DS (2.8yo) favourite and saved him a portion. But only just remembered it in the fridge. Would it be safe to give him tomorrow evening if reheated very thoroughly? Would be 4 days old...

I go to four days for leftovers. Make sure you give it a good sniff before you warm it up, heat it thoroughly and maybe have a taste first.

I wouldn't, 24-48hrs is supposed to be ok if heated right through but i would say 4 days is well beyond that and may make him ill x

dangerousliaison · 12/06/2012 21:01

I wouldnt if it is cream based, anything else I would say 3 to 4 days, but if im honest I wouldnt eat this myself so definatly wouldnt risk on a young child.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 12/06/2012 21:02

I would it it smells ok before heating

Downtherabbithole · 12/06/2012 21:34

Ok differing opinions here! I normally have a 3 day rule for leftovers so will err on the side of caution and put it in the bin . Thanks everyone.

Thats a shame and it will be well fine. Dont understand why if it contains cream its risky after 4 days? Surely cream cakes, cream in sauces etc are available off the shelf then if covered and smell ok then there is no need to worry. Anyway the cream has been heated over 100 degrees. I would of eat it and def in my children too. Never hardly throw a thing out and all fit and well! By the way there is no rule.

I would.

MynameisnotEarl · 12/06/2012 22:18

This says leftovers should be used in 2 days and food doesn't need to smell bad to make you ill.

I think you did the right thing OP in throwing it away.
