Transportable dairy-free pudding ideas?

AngelDog · 11/06/2012 15:25

I need to make a pudding to take to a BBQ tomorrow evening and I can't think of any ideas.

It needs to be non-dairy, or at least, contain no dairy other than milk, yoghurt or cream (not sure if I can whip it or not) as I can get lactose-free versions of those.

It needs to be quick & easy to prepare too please. :)

Grateful for any suggestions.

Fruit salad jelly (jelly with fruit in) with I've cream? Seems a bit "childish" but you could do it in individual glasses - get some plastic ones so people can walk and eat - use summer fruits like strawberries, raspberries etc?

Or compote - reduce some plums to a sort of stew with a touch of sugar. Eat with ice cream. (you can get lactose free ice cream)

Chocolate mousse - flaked almonds on top instead of whipped cream
Apple or other fruit pie (tinned peaches is nice & a bit unusual)
Apple & mincemeat jalousie (easiest pudding ever, always popular, I use eating apples not a cooker though)

Personally I'd just go for puddings that don't need dairy, rather than getting lactose free stuff. DH is dairy allergic, & there's loads of options once you start thinking of them

Sorry, obviously if you do a pastry based dish you need to make sure that there's no dairy in the pastry. I use trex (hard veg fat) or you can use a dairy free margarine.

If you buy pastry then Jus-Rol puff pastry is dairy free so long as you avoid the 'all butter' one (do check the ingredient list though just in case they've changed it since Xmas!)
