Four days is pushing it for cooked chicken even if it has been kept chilled.

BertieBotts · 09/06/2012 13:58

I'd sniff it/taste a tiny bit to check.

Next time, freeze it :)

www.foodsafety.gov/keep/charts/storagetimes.html

According to this, cooked chicken can be kept for 3-4 days so should be OK although I don't know if I would risk it personally!

I always do that Grin hence, freeze just in case. You can always microwave it even the next day or so.

My rule is, if you have to ask, the answer is likely to be no.

BertieBotts · 09/06/2012 14:18

My rule is if it's not growing mould then it's worth a sniff test. I also slice the mouldy bits of bread off and eat the rest if we have no more in Blush

I really hate wasting food.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 09/06/2012 21:18

The trouble with spiced food is that, if the meat is off, you won't be able to do a sniff test....

Elderflowergranita · 09/06/2012 21:52

Going against the general response here - am sure the chicken is absolutely fine.

It wouldn't even occur to me to be concerned about it. We all waste ridiculous amounts of food by unnecessarily throwing stuff out. It drives me a bit mad to be honest. Our parents' generation survived without refrigeration. And spices help to preserve meats.

A rule like 'if you have to ask, the answer is likely to be no', just adds to the mountains of food we waste day by day.

cobysstepmummy · 10/06/2012 12:55

We didn't risk it in the end as I tasted and couldn't be certain that it was ok so the local Chinese saved the day Grin
Thank you for your advice though I wouldn't normally have asked but I thought 4 days may have been pushing it!
