I seem to have tons of the stuff in the fridge for some reason, seems a shame to waste it!! I can picture it cut up spaghetti Bol style so I can just grab handfuls as and when.....but would it turn to slush? Thanks!

You can chop it up quite small and fry it, then freeze it spread out on a tray, when it's frozen store it in a bag. I do this all the time, it's perfect to add to bolognaise or stews.

i've done this too, and used for stews. but i didn't fry it, just washed it and then used it from frozen

You should chop it up and freeze in freezer bag or whatever. It's only fit for use in soups, stews etc. because it goes soft, but other than that, it's absolutely fine. I grow about 20 plants each summer and then freeze it in the autumn to last all winter for cooking.

Do you think this would work if I did a big pot of chopped onion, celery and carrot and froze it in portions ready to chuck into bolognaise/chilli/casserole etc?

Cool will try it - what's the worst that can happen?! Will save me buying celery and not using most of it!

Ooh I never knew this! I love celery in soups, spag bol etc but never buy it because it just goes off :)

peasandlove · 10/06/2012 05:21

when you buy it, cut the leafy bits off then wrap the whole thing in tinfoil, it lasts for ever like this and wont go limp

BertieBotts · 10/06/2012 08:58

Ooh, does it?? I thought tinfoil was a bad idea in the fridge, though...
