Is a pork shoulder joint, boned and tied with the rind still on the kind of thing I can walk into a butchers and ask for or would I need to order in advance? Am a butcher novice, tend to just buy supermarket stuff but there is a recipe I want to try.

I don't see why not. I try to go to my local butcher and he's really accommodating and knows exactly what he's talking about. What are you cooking? (Nosey!)

Should be - there may be a wait if they have to bone and roll one for you though. And the price may make you wince...

Good food magazine American style pulled pork. Love slow cooked pork but haven't really tried it myself.

Ocado have a joint that is 2kg for a tender. Is a joint from the butcher going to be a) much nicer and b) much more expensive? What do you reckon?

You're making pulled pork? I shouldn't worry too much about 'butchers quality'. I just use a pork shoulder from Saisburys.

Cool, will just get the supermarket one then.
