I know using Kool Aid to dye stuff is big in the States, is there any thing similarly toxic that is available here?

wasn't sure quite where to post this..

Errrrrmmm I open this thread out of morbid curiosity.

Dying.........................dyeing?

Bumping for you. Wink

For dyeing (I hope you mean!). Dyeing what - clothes and the like? I can't think of any unnatural foodstuffs here that would dye clothes, but beetroot might do a reasonable job.

Tea
Blackberries
Coffee grounds

What colours are you looking for?

SootySweepandSue · 29/05/2012 15:51

I've bought it in Bentalls in Kingston but I think you'll be able to buy it online if you try specialist US food stores.

I can see that it could be used for dye-ing. The cherry flavour stained my kitchen worktopSad...

Oh, I thought there was to be another Jonestown episode. Blush

But Kool Aid is just artificial colours and flavourings, the yellow lemon kool aid I have here uses "yellow 5" which is just Tartrazine (E-102) for the colouring - it's an old packet probably over 6 years old, which is relevant as E-102 has been withdrawn from use in the UK for a few years now.

Any food colouring you want will likely do, and be similar as to what's available in kool aid. I guess it's popular as it's cheaper to buy kool-aid?

Have you ever drunk Kool-aid?

I reckon the thread title was spot on Grin.

oh God, yes, dyeing Blush

I read this post www.teachpreschool.org/2011/01/making-colorful-and-scented-rice-for-preschool/ & was over come by enthusiasm. Another google shows that most people use food colouring so I think I will do that as if I will ever get around to it
