What happens if you cook fairy cakes in paper cases but not in fairy cake/muffin trays?

I bought some 'large fairy cake cases' but the bottoms of the cases are so wide that they don't fit in my usual fairy cake or muffin trays.

If I packed these cases fairly firmly into a brownie baking tray (or some such thing) so that they fit well when filled, do you think that'd be enough to support them ... or do you think that they'd come out lopsided and all over the place?

Thought I'd ask before trying!

If you double line, they do generally holdtheir shape. Don't pack them in too tightly because they'll all stick together if they overflow. Have fun!

Ime, lopsided but depends on how firm the paper is.

I've done it a couple of times, and they come out slightly wobbly, but not a complete disaster - unless you are planning on selling them of course. Smile

I did this years ago and the result was rather non-uniformly shaped cakes. But if you don't mind what they look like and are just desperate for cake, go for it :)

Thank you all for getting back to me - I'll give it a whirl but will save them for cakes for home as opposed to for school cake sales etc. Good to know upfront that they're going to be a bit all over the place though - manages my expectations well!
