Does anybody own a chocolate fountain? If so, which brand and are you happy with it? Thinking of buying one but not sure if the cheap ones on ebay are any good, or just a waste of money.

I got mine from Lakeland, and it is great & totally reliable.

Lakeland things do often cost more, but I think the quality and the lifetime guarantee is worth it. They will give you your ones back if you change you mind, however long that is after you bought it.

I don't have one, but SIL used hers for a party recently and I hadn't realised how much oil you have to add to make the chocolate stay liquid. It put me off tbh Sad

Dropdeadfred · 24/05/2012 11:41

The oily chocolate is gross

toodles · 24/05/2012 13:33

I didn't know about the oil. Is that the only way the chocolate will work in the machine?

As I understood it from SIL, you need about 50/50 oil & chocolate. I couldn't eat a bite more Sad

What about a chocolate fondue set, maybe?

Dropdeadfred · 24/05/2012 14:04

It leaves a horrible after taste... Like oil funnily enough

RCOR · 24/05/2012 14:50

I only found out recently about the oil in the choc for these fountains. Put me right off too....plus the thought of dust and flies maybe getting sucked in. Totally my own notion BTW. I've no idea if this actually happens.

Work of the devil, DD (19) got one as birthday present, used once, clean up horrendous, amount of chocolate required and consumed obscene.. never again :(

DaisySteiner · 24/05/2012 20:08

I would also advise that you never use it outside unless it is a totally calm day with no breeze at all. I say this from bitter experience Shock Grin

Thanks very much for the replies. Sorry that I didn't get back to the thread sooner - had a root canal done yesterday and , oh my goodness, the pain. Neurofen is my friend right now.

The oil has put me right off and I won't be buying one.

I take it that you don't have to use oil with chocolate fondue then.

No - fondue tends to be chocolate + double cream + optional booze. Hope your mouth feels better soon toodles
