White cake?

Debs75 · 21/05/2012 15:20

I am making a jubilee cake which will look red, white and blue when cut. My first thought was to do a thick layer of white buttercream in the middle but am now wondering if you can bake a cake to be white.when cut. Obviously the edges erik darken.
I am planning on using a victoria sponge mix.
Any help gratefully received.

You can make something called angel food cake that has just the whites of the egg and not the yolks.

Could you make a layer of meringue in the middle?

You can get Superwhite for icing. You may be able to use it in cake, but I've never tried.

Its difficult for us Brits to get white cake, as our butter is yellow. I was sent a white cake mix from the US when I needed a white cake.

Ive got lurpak which is the palest butter I could find. Better pop to the cake shop and look for some super white
