I've just taken them out of the fridge. When the waater is boiling, how long do I cook them for?

I am useless at cooking boiled eggs. They are either hard boiled or too runny

Help!!!!!!!!!!

How big are they? If large I would give 5.5 minutes.

Mind you, you've probably eaten them now

5.5 mins jowen???

they'd be hard by then.

I boil 2 large eggs for 2 mins 45 seconds for a runny yoke. Cut the top off both to start or the second egg will continue to cook in it's shell while you eat the first.

you get an egg perfect
from Lakeland (where else?)

They aren't LTH, not from the fridge. I did Tesco Large free range eggs kept at room temperature for 5 minutes this morning, the white was set and the yolk was runny.

You have to plunge them straight into cold water for a minute or two once 5 minutes is up though, or they carry on cooking.

LadyTophamHatt · 18/02/2006 09:47

ahh, it must be the cold water bath that does it.

or you have humungous eggs

NannyL · 18/02/2006 09:58

we have "large" eggs
i put them into water on a "rolling boil" for exactly 5 mins and 15 seconds (straight from the fridge).... and the yokes are ALWAYS nice and runny

I cook mine straight from the fridge, into rolling boiling water for exactly 6 minutes. They're medium free range, btw. The whites are set perfectly, with just a tinge of hardness around the edge of the yoke, runny in the middle.

Freckle · 18/02/2006 10:28

I put mine in cold water, put on the stove and then cook for 3 minutes once the water has started to boil. Perfect every time.

I alwasy buy large eggs and get them out of the fridge and put them straight into boiling water. They take 5 minutes.

But of course it depends on how big yours are and how cold they are to begin with and whether you want to start with boiled water or cold water! HTH

Yep afraid they were cooked and eaten by the time you all started replying! They were not bad this time. It's a bit hit and miss with my eggs! But I'll remember all your advice next time!
