My dd is 8 months and a late starter on solids (only about a month). I have problems making her eat ANYTHING everyday as she is teething whoch probably does not help.... AAAnyway my next problem is egg! My hv said I should introduce it to her now but she also tells me to give her chocolate as a treat so I am not quite sure to tak eher advice!!! What is a good age to introduce egg and what is the best way?
My hv said first try the yolk, hard boiled mixed with milk then the white? Is this a good idea?
Can she have a dangerous reaction? Is this common? Thanks!

ds started on solds at 4 months - very little for a while first
he didnt have egg for ages though
i am sure it was around 9 months

Eggs can have a nasty reaction if a child is allergic to them but I think it is not common. My cousin has one on her first try and her eyes and lips swelled - A&E sorted it very quickly though.

I gave DD eggs for the first time to DD at 6 months and she was fine. The eggs should not be runny though.

I did scrambled eggs first as it is soft and easy to manage. After that and as she got more into food - omlette, hard boiled, eggy bread...

I think I mashed the hard boiled yolk first, then combined it wiith mashed potato. tbh ds never liked egg and still doesn't. dd loves egg - on its own, scrambled, boiled or as quiche etc. I also tended to disguise it in fish pie, toad in the hole etc. when we moved on to family meals. Your hv is probably trying to encourage you to give it for iron content but the yolk is the part with the most nutrients.

I was told not to introduce egg until 12 mths old. But we have a lot of allergies in our family.

I think I started by giving him scrambled eggs with cheese in. He loves cheese and will eat anything if its cheesy!

Also the white is the bit they are most likely to have a reaction to. I would hard boil and egg and mash the yolk to start with. I am sure around 9 months is the age to introduce egg. I had a nanny who decided to introduce lightly boiled egg to my 6 month old!!! I only caught her after she had been doing it for a couple of weeks, I nearly died! However she was from Australia and they don't have the same information.

Egg white is definately more likely to cause a reaction especially if still runny. Ds has ended up having adrenalin in hspital after eating a mousse containing raw egg white. He is fine with cooked egg white though, apparently the protein in it changes during cooking.

I tried to introduce egg to my 11mo ds this morning in the form of an omlette - just one egg half a cup of milk and a little grated cheese. He happily stuffed pieces into his mouth but a few moments later bought the lot up. What does it mean? He obviously liked the taste, but somehow it didn't like him. Any insights gratefully received.
