Help - substituting powdered gelatine for leaf gelatine

Sorry, gelatine novice here, please bear with me!

I'm trying to make this jelly but couldn't get leaf gelatine and have instead come home with some Dr Oetker's powdered gelatine.

Reading the instructions on the back of the box, however, I've gotten confused. The directions for use are as follows:

  • Use quantities of gelatine and liquid as stated in your recipe
  • To dissolve the gelatine pour 120ml (or the quantity detailed in your recipe) of hot water into a jug or small bowl
  • Sprinkle the gelatine on to the hot water.
  • Stir briskly until thoroughly mixed.

They then go on to say that one sachet sets 1 pint of liquid.

Am I meant to dissolve the gelatine before I add it to the smoothie, in which case how much water should I be using to dissolve it?

Or should I heat up the smoothie and add sufficient gelatine to it, in which case how much is the right quantity of gelatine - 2 sachets to set just over 1 litre of smoothie? Or do I need to try and find the powdered equivalent of 6 sheets of leaf gelatine?

Confused

Any assistance greatly appreciated Grin

One tablespoon of powdered gelatin is equal to 4 sheets of leaf gelatin.

If there is no liquid such as water in the recipe, melt the powdered gelatin in a couple of teaspoonfuls of hot water, and stir until dissolved.

If you do not dissolve it first you will only get lumps with minimal setting.

So if you need 6 sheets then you will need 1.5 tablespoons of powdered gelatin which is about 1.5 sachets.
