Allergic to apple?

My friend's 6 month old first tried a tiny amount of apple when he was 3 months and came out in a rash on his temples. She didn't give him any more apple but tried him with a gluten-free rusk last week and he came out in the rash again.

Has anyone else had their child react to apples or gluten-free rusks?!! The apples we can understand, but the rusks...? We're considering a sugar reaction. Any insights?

Also, if he is allergic to apple, how long does the allergy last? Will he ever be able to eat apples or rusks again?
Thanks loads

My sister is alergic to apples (amongst other things). Did the rusks have any pectin in them? You need to check all the ingredients. Pectin is often used as a 'sugar free' sweetner but it is made from apples.

I'm sorry to say that my sister is now 17 and is still alergic to apples (and wheat, oranges, tomatoes, sesame and strawberries).

hello - i would not worry about longterm allergies just yet! i tried my little girl with formula milk at 5 months and she had an allegic reaction, i tried twice and both times hse cameout in hives. i was really upset and thought she was in for a life of no chocolate!!! joke! anyway she woul dnot go near soya milk or nutramagen. i carried on breast feeding her and when she got to 7 months, i thought i would try again as she had started eating solids etc therefore her body had been introduced to foods other than breastmilk, i rubbed some formula milk on her cheek - no reaction, so rubbed some on her lip - no reaction and then finally gave her a few ounzes of formula and thank god she was fine. i think her system rejected the milk at 5 months as it was just not ready or mature enough for anything else. i think in your friends case 3 months is a bit too early really to be introducing foods other than milk. they do recommednd you wait untul nearer 6 months to avoid allergies. if i was your friend i would delay introducing anything other than milk for as long as possible until about 6 months than when she goes to get her baby weighed at the doctors or clinc, try her baby with a small amount like i did on her skin, lip then mouth, that way doctors ro health visitors are close by and onhand should anything happen. i hope this is just a temporary blip which is possible
