sorry if this has been done before. which is the best way to buy your fruits and vegetables? i always aim for fresh but since birdseye have made the advert of the car made out of a pea and by the time it gets home it's nolonger fresh i'm beginning to wonder whether i should aim more for frozen and tinned foods (although the freezer is packed with dd's homemade pureed meals so not sure if this would be possible). what's everybody elses views on this?

I would say fresh, then frozen, then tinned.

However, the fresh stuff should be used pomptly or not as good as it should be. I am terrible as I have my fresh fruit and veg in the house for up to 5 or 6 days before using it at times!

I use a lot of frozen spinach, peas, mixed casserole veg, mushrooms, peppers, green beans because it's very economical and I believe there are more vitamins than in fresh vegetables which are no longer fresh, but i do also use fresh leeks, onions, mushrooms, potatoes, root veg, salads, greens etc

tins I use carrots, tomatoes, sweetcorn, creamed mushrooms (because i like them!)

yeah i do but shove everything that can go into the fridge in there to try to keep it at its freshest and it does sometimes take me up to 5 days to use them up. i couldn't go and buy fresh fruits and vegetables everyday.

I buy fresh and frozen - don't buy tinned as I find it has a horrible texture and taste.

So mostly fresh but buy frozen spinach, peas and sweetcorn.

Think spuds can sweat (euw) if in the fridge.
And bananas (had to think how to spell that for a mo) give off ethylene that can make other things in the fridge over-ripen hence go off quicker, so it's for the other foods' benefit, not the bananas.

On the original point, I think fresh, then frozen, then canned. Canned veg has already been 'cooked' (is heat treated to give tin long shelf life) so can be lower in vitamins etc, and also often have salt and / or sugar added.
Having said that, so much 'fresh' supermarket veg has been stored chilled in warehouses etc who knows how fresh it really is...
