I'm in need of inspiration for my dc school packed lunches, what have you given your dc today?

Mine went off with tuna pasta, apple, apple squeeze and a packet of salt and shake crisps (all I could come up with out of my empty cupboards today)

Usually either sarnies with jam/cheese/ham/peanut butter/marmite or pasta pesto peas or houmous and breadsticks and carrot sticks or couscous with sweet corn and green beans

Apple/Dried banana bits/Yoghurt/buttermilk pancakes

Rotation of the above, if strapped for time stuffed tortellini with frozen peas and pesto is a staple!!

I'm going to try making various patties - onion/prawn bhajis, sweetcorn fitters.
Maybe some chicken drumsticks with a dip. Home made pies.

I got some brilliant containers - in fact I fully intend to buy a range of non-kiddie lunch boxes, so we can easily pack up loads of different options...they'll come in handy for picnics and general food storage anyway.

Betty, those tubs look great! Are they insulated? And if so, do they keep food warm til lunchtime?

They are insulated - double walled plastic but they wouldn't keep food warm till lunch - they are safe to use in a microwave - without the lid.

DD has food intolerances & is pescetarian, so packed lunches aren't the easiest, but its better than trusting the new School meals provider, who IMHO/IME are totally cr@p Hmm, also theres nut allergies in School to take into account, so it can be difficult some days

Today shes gone off with a tub of veg snacks, sort of salad, but more carrots, mange-tout, peppers, olives, spinach leaves, butter beans & a chunk of mature cheddar (she can't eat mild cheeses), - most of which I just cut extra of as I was preparing tea last night - also another tub full of proper corn nachos & a home made blue berry muffin & a pear.

I rotate between making batches of maki rolls - pasties are good as you can either make them up & freeze & pop in the oven when cooking tea the night before & generally just a good back up, I make up batches of fruit muffins, or fill little lidded pots with fruit & jelly & keep a stack in the fridge to just grab.

She's also happy to have cold plain pasta as her carb with grated cheese & again a chopped veg pot.

She gets sandwiches some days, but I have to remember to buy bread/rolls as can't send her in with our normal seeded stuff, but she's limited in what she'll eat in a sandwich, as she complains the lunch bags aren't stored well, so if its hot some things don't taste so good, so its mature cheese & pickle, or tuna & sweetcorn mayo.

Couse cous or rice salad is another I make batches of & it can last a couple of days in the fridge, so easy just to throw a scoop into a tub

We really need to go shopping so there isn't much nice in for packed lunches today.

DS took a ham sandwich, a fruit corner yoghurt, a banana and a bottle of water. DS will only eat 'normal' bread - no bagels, wraps etc. He'll only eat ham or Nutella.
DD took a Nutella sandwich and the same other things as DS. DD usually wants tuna but I only let her have it a couple of times a week.

I made some raspberry lamingtons yesterday for them to have too, but they turned up their noses.

I'm not massively inventive with packed lunches because they aren't fussed about me being so and they usually leave stuff which annoys me. I made some lovely little savoury cheese and sweetcorn muffins a while back that I thought they'd love and neither liked them.

Now and then I will pop something slightly different in - eg DD likes pasta salad or veg sticks instead of fruit. DS likes little sausages with ketchup and fruity flapjacks.

Sometimes they get a carton of fruit juice or a smoothie instead of water.
Sometimes they get a packet of crisps/mini cheddars/iced gems etc.
Sometimes they get a box of raisins.

They always love squeezy yoghurts. I won't buy cheese strings though.

Today DD2 had a ham wrap, some ritz crackers, some cubed cheese, 2 slices of salami, a tube yoghurt and a chocolate biscuit. She also had a small bottle of water and some yoghurt raisins for a snack.
