Friend is very poorly and her husband is having to try and hold down a job as well as look after 3 dc's under 8!

I want to help them out. Other than lasagne, what can I make a big batch of that won't cost me the earth that will still taste great when re heated? 2 of their dc are quite fussy.

Thanks!

Soup? Mild curry? Shepherds pie?

hermionestranger · 08/05/2012 12:44

Bolognase, sgepards pie, curry, chilli.

Fish pie?
Minestrone Soup?
Curry?
Chilli Con Carne?
Sausage Casserole?

Bolognaise?

Stew?

Lovely idea

DottyDot · 08/05/2012 12:46

Chilli? Bit like lasagne but our fussy ds's love it so hopefully it's fairly safe? Or just bolognase sauce and they can add to it with pasta/rice/spice it up?

A roast chicken or roast chicken pieces? Again they could add to it with potatoes etc.

I'd do lasagne and a bumper load of mince on the side. Then I'd hand over a tin of kidney beans (to turn mince into Chilli), and maybe some mashed potato to turn it into Shepherds pie.
3 meals!

Thanks all, you are speedy!

I did think of Sausage Casserole which is a big hit with my dc but thought it might not be great reheated?

I think I'll do a load of bolognese and maybe some soup, hadn't thought of that, and maybe a homemade loaf of bread.

Will keep watching for more ideas. Thank you!

this is lovely we omit the mushrooms and use less onion, also we tend to chop them fine. CHeap sausages work fine.

Tuna pasta bake

Risotto - esp the "chuck in the ingredients and bung in the oven for 20 mins" variety.

Potato bake - sliced spuds, bacon, onion, garlic, butter. Layer and pour in milk to about 1cm under top layer. cover in tinfoil, shove in oven for an hour. Layer of cheese and grill until yummy.

Any soup, casserole or stew would be welcome in this house! What a lovely friend you are!

It might be easier to do something that you're making for your own family anyway and make double.

Eg: a big batch of tomato sauce / a pan of soup /

Or something child friendly that he could just heat through - eg baked potatoes, split in half, scoop ot the filling and mix with cheese and butter - when he reheats them they will go all cheesy and golden and lovely.

Or some baby quiches (done in a jam tart tin) - they would heat up nicely and only need salad or vege or even baked beans alongside them for the children

Macaroni cheese?

rhihaf · 08/05/2012 20:38

A big cheese and potato pie. Mash, finely chopped onion, cheese.
