Has anyone got a good recipe for gnocchi? I'd like to try it as we eat too much pasta (especially dd).

And a pronunciation tip would be great too!

pronounced nyoki, but haven't got a recipe!

We use it as a bung together meal
Cheese sauce, fry up some mushrooms and bacon and add. Cook loads of spinach/nettles with gnocchi. Add sauce to gnocchi

I like to get some chicken, chop and fry in pesto (basil, tomato - whatever) add some mushrooms. Boil gnocchi in pan and when it's all cooked stir in with chicken etc. it's bloody lovely!

Do mean to go with the gnocchi or to make the gnocchi itself? I have a great recipe for potato gnocchi which is really simple & easy but cba to type it out if you want recipes for accompaniments!
Not really being lazy Blush but it takes me forever to type on my phone!

I like it with a very simple tomato and basil sauce, with some freshly grated parmesan and a big green or mixed salad.

I fry the gnocchi until crispy, then chuck in some halved cherry tomatoes, olives, garlic and a little finely chopped onion, cook for a few more mins then finish with a bit of pesto and grated parmasan on top. Delicious, and no risk of the gnocchi being over cooked and stodgy.

Making gnocchi is a huge PITA. You need a potato ricer for a start, it takes ages, gets kitchen covered in flour, and they don't taste as nice as shop-bought ones.

MrsHelsBels74 · 06/05/2012 17:50

I've never used a potato ricer when I've made it & don't really find it a pita. But it does cover your kitchen in flour I agree!

we buy the gnocchi from tesco.

Children's favourites are either smokey ham/bacon/pig of some sort, maybe some mushrooms, and some double cream to make a sauce, add in the cooked gnocchi. Parmesan and chives over to serve

or chorizo/salami/sausage, big big spoonful of red pesto, a little double cream or a big dod of philly or butter. Basil and parmesan to finish.

Thanks for the ideas. Shop I went to didn't have any so it'll
have to wait until next week. I had thought of making my own, but sounds like a real faff.

This is tasty.

I like it done as a sort of bake, and do it much as you would do a pasta bake. Usually with some chopped onion, crispy bacon, tomato garlic sauce and topped with cheese

Home made tastes much better but you can shortcut - substitute with Irish potato bread griddled (I recieved something similar in an authentic Italian restaurant - maybe not as authentic as home made gnocchi but a millions time better that the tough shop bought horror and it takes a fraction of the time to prepare and contains similar ingredients - River Cafe Green has a great recipe with chilli chorizo and sage sauce.

We do it with a blue cheese and cream sauce. You need, er, blue cheese and cream Smile. The blue cheese tastes milder in the sauce than raw. Wilting some spinach or rocket in there is lovely too.

Nigella roasts them like roast potatoes but I've never tried it.
