Does anyone else ignore going off dates on cheese?

There was a thread recently about things your mother would do. Well I never throw cheese away untill it has mould. It was just the 'done' thing. I only thought of it today, after giving DS some and then checking the date -oops! Have I committed a cardinal sin?

I'll let you into a secret!! The best restaurants and caterers cut the mould off when serving cheese boards. Best trick in the trade. Well I kow a few more but my lips are sealed!!

Do you mean the best before date on the cheese, or just not using it up within x days of opening it?

BBD!

I'm obviously the wimp of the thread then

Funnily enough I just rang Sainsburys to moan that they had sold me some feta past its best before date. The woman said "Oh it'll be fine, honestly, I will refund you but you can eat it anyway, don't worry about it."

Which I thought was a bit naughty of her.
