Sorry this is long. I've got an 11 month old who stopped eating jars at 9 months (same with DD1). For both DDs I go to butcher and buy things like sausage and chicken breasts. I cut them up into portions and freeze them per meal size. DD2 will eat:
Oven cooked sausage with mashed(messy) or new potatoes, garden peas, fine green beans or carrots (whatever i've got in).
Chicken breast done under the grill or oven cooked (with butter over it to stop it drying up), veg etc as above.
Pasta shapes mixed with primula cheese spread, or tuna mayo.
If i'm struggling to cook, i give good brand fish fingers or chicken dippers, with oven chips or waffles with a veg.
Everything made is cut up into bitesize pieces so that she can swallow if she's struggling to chew (she's got 7 teeth so a few more than yours).
For lunch, I make sandwiches (ham, turkey, primula, tuna) - 1 slice cut into squares, then triangles so that they're small. She also eats cucumbers and cherry tomatoes and if she liked cheese would give her that too. Also eats pizza for some variety.
For breakfast, she has a banana with some toast or a pancake or a yoghurt.
She loves grapes and apples too (eats apples better when they're not cut up cos she can bite as much off as she wants).
Everything I give her (bar yoghurt) is a finger food. It gives me a bit of a break and gives her a bit of independence. She generally eats well, sometimes she struggles to chew it (sausage mainly) but its all coming with practice. She eats more than DD1 anyway.
Its up to you but once you get over the fact you're feeding them more like a toddler and you see that they can feed themselves (after practice) you'll feel a lot happier. As for spoons etc, I always place them on the table for her to play with. I finally let DD1 loose with a spoon at about 18 months and it just came naturally.
