really raw cashews are toxic, therefore all cashews, roasted or otherwise, are boiled before sale

jellyjelly · 13/02/2006 10:38

do you know how long they have to be boiled for?

Um, no

AFAIK, they are boild by the harvester, the source, way before they get to the shop. So any cashews you buy should have been through his process. I think. Hard to tell without seeing them but I would be very surprised, as they are imported, if you could buy them in the UK in their raw state

Got them in the ethnic section of tesco and they look white and say raw cashews on them but nothing else.

What is afaik?

I think the only company who produce truly raw cashews is called nature's Law

all non roasted cashews are labelled raw but as suzy says the process of shelling means they are effectively cooked

sp you can use them hoiw you wish

If they are white and hard then they have been boiled. The cashew nut comes from a tree which grows fruit that looks a bit like a capsicum and the nut is in fact the little stalk thing which attaches it to the tree so when raw it is green. Here (in Brazil) you can buy the juice of the fruit and eat the fruit direct from the tree but I have never seen the nut/stalk thing for sale before being cooked.
Afaik = as far as I know
