Does anyone make spelt bread in a breadmaker?

I normally use our breadmaker to make loaves - well, I get it to mix/prove the dough (90 mins in the breadmaker) then take it out to rise and bake in the oven.

I want to make a spelt loaf but the flour packet says it takes less time than normal flour to prove and rise. The breadmaker hasn't got a spelt setting so is it OK to use the normal dough setting? Do I need to take it out before the 90 mins is up?

Right, I've only had failed attempts at spelt bread, however, it apparently takes less time to knead, and prove. How long is your knead setting, proving should be about 30mins iirc, also you need to mix your yeast with the liquid before you put it in. I read that you can use the fast bake/light crust setting for spelt, if you have one.
Disclaimer - I don't have a breadmaker, but would like one specifically for making spelt bread, but the ones with a spelt setting are too expensive. Please let me know how you get on, cos all my bread comes out like lead, and I'd kill for a sandwich :)

The total time kneading/proving on my dough setting is 90 mins. I suppose it's ok just to take it out after say an hour?

According to this recipe proving should take about an hour so perhaps I'll just take it out of the breadmaker early and hope for the best!

Do let me know how it turns out :)

My breadmaker says use the Rye setting for spelt. Do you have a Rye setting?
The recipe also uses about twice the amount of yeast and more sugar and water than the normal wholewheat recipe.

Well it turned out ok for a first try. Quite dense and didn't rise as much as a normal loaf but tastes nice with butter! I used the normal dough setting (no spelt or rye option) but took it out after an hour (usual cycle is 90 mins). Slow to rise - took about 50 mins (says 25 mins on the flour packet).

Next time I think I'll try leaving it for the full 90 mins in the machine to see if that helps with the rising, and maybe add a little more yeast.
