It doesn't say yes or no in my recipe book for the SC but does say to thaw veg first so I am thinking it is the same for chicken impatient to cook and nothing to do as too organised

No! You shouldn't cook anything from frozen in a sc, the temperature just isn't high enough.

Defrost it in microwave first, brown in a pan and then bung in sc :)

Agreed, it would never cook through properly. Defrost first :)

in AMerica, they do!! Apparently, the newer crockpots are much hotter than the old style ones, and if its on all day, it will be OK. However, I would use a thermometer and check the temp at end of cooking.

(normal chicken you wouldnt cook for longer than 6 hours, but frozen can go in for 8-10 hours -apparently).

There are a lot of blogs for freezer cooking for crock pots, and they often chuck stuff in frozen in the morning.

I wouldnt do a whole chook, but chicken pieces (teck temp at end) might be OK.

Thank you. DH said to defrost in the microwave too but I have found that things get really hot and start to cook so not confident to do it. I have decided the chicken is for tea so that will give more time for it to defrost naturally and then I am making yum yum chicken so don't need the SC now.

Whats yum yum chicken? :)

JustFab · 29/04/2012 16:12

It is chicken breasts cooked with tomatoes, onions, mixed herbs and mushrooms. I am doing it without mushrooms today though as I used them all for dinner and forgot I needed them for this. Kids won't care.

no

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 29/04/2012 18:10

Sounds like gently warmed through campylobacter to me, in a salmonella jus.

So that's a no!

For next time btw, defrost your chicken on a metal tray. It speeds things up no end.

bigTillyMint · 29/04/2012 18:15

No. I eat all sorts of stuff past the sell-by-date, etc, but I wouldn't do this!

NettoSuperstar · 29/04/2012 18:17

No, I wouldn't.
I don't have a microwave any more but when I did I never defrosted meat in it.
I did try a couple of times, and it half cooked some of it, while just defrosting other bits.

I always defrost stuff on a roasting rack on a plate so they do defrost fairly quickly.

The chicken was ready and the dinner looked delicious. DS2 ate every last scrap and ds1 and dd had a moan about the sauce but dh made them eat it all. I would have let them leave what was on their plate when I went back in the kitchen as they had eaten all the chicken.

I always do, usually because I forget to defrost things! I gave never got I'll because of it, I use frozen thighs/ legs for curry, cook on high for the whole day.
