I am making a pink and purple extravaganza for dd's birthday party tomorrow. I was planning on just making a round cake and using a template to cut round. Don't know if anyone has some kind of nifty trick for cutting up a round/rectangular/square cake and re-assembling as a star, so as to avoid having to bake a massive cake and have loads of waste? We are having a vanilla sponge iced with either white choc ganache or buttercream, so can cover any joins. Thanks Confused

i would make square sponges or cut a square out of a rectangle if i didnt ahve a square tin and then cut it into triangles to then make it into a star shape?

how many points do you want the star to have?

ok if you make one large triangle out of a square rectanlge sponge, you could then make 2 small triangles to add on as the extra points of the star if you see what i mean? aggghh need a draw facility on mn!

/_\ so you have your triangle if you see what i mean? and then add a small triangle onto the two sides and the bottom? to make it into a star?

Oh, that sounds great 5madthings, just what I was thinking of! So I bake a big square cake, cut off left and right sides in a triangular shape, leaving a triangle? then make 3 small triangleas from cutoffs, and put back on 2 sides and base?

I would make two round cakes, use one as the centre of star and cut the other into segments n turn round for points if that makes sense.

Make two round cakes, cut one into wedges and the other into a pentagon: here
