Can you get it in the supermarkets?

I got some in Waitrose, but I would think most large supermarkets sell it. Or an Asian supermarket.

MaureenMLove · 26/04/2012 18:53

Oh strange! I've just come back from Morrisons and I stopped in the International food aisle and thought, 'oh, look at that, I can get paneer in here!' Grin

So - yes. Morrisons!

NettoSuperstar · 26/04/2012 18:53

Asda and Morrisson's here sell it (small town Scotland)

Takver · 26/04/2012 19:08

Its also very easy to make though you have to do it the day before you want it (recipe here or google 'how to make paneer')

doblet · 26/04/2012 19:25

Great, will go and get some tomorrow. I want to buy rather than make as doing a bit of a banquet and need to save time

This recipe with paneer is amazing btw, I can't recommend enough.

Chopstheduck · 26/04/2012 19:31

It's in the fridge, with cheeses, in a box. I love paneer.

If you have any Asian grocers around you it would be cheaper there.

Takver, I've tried making it but can never get it firm enough, mine comes out all crumbly.

Takver · 26/04/2012 19:40

Did you do the thing of putting a weight on it after draining?

You can also cut the curd after it has set but before draining to help get more whey out (with a breadknife cut vertical slices about an inch apart each way in a cross pattern, then as far as you can without mixing slice horizontally as if you were aiming for 1 inch cubes)

I've also generally curdled it with vinegar rather than with lemon juice

Takver · 26/04/2012 19:40

(Come to think of it if you're only making a litre a breadknife would be overkill, I used to make by the bucketful as we had goats!)

hackneyzoo · 26/04/2012 19:44

Sainsburys sell it too.

storminabuttercup · 26/04/2012 19:46

Lidl had it today

Chopstheduck · 26/04/2012 19:57

Yep I weighted it down, but it still crumbled as soon as I cut it. Would be ok for kofta but not much else!

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 26/04/2012 19:58

They sell it in all the supermarkets here (mind you I live in an ethnic area so perhaps that would influence it).

Agree it is cheaper in asian grocers.

All the supermarkets sell it around here, but I am in London so that's probably not very helpful! The DC would sulk if I made chicken curry without it, lovely stuff.

VivaLeBeaver · 09/03/2013 17:50

Sainsburys and tesco have it. Haven't bought it for ages but it used to be in the fridge section in a purple box.

moondog · 09/03/2013 17:52

How many goats did you have Takver?

Bunbaker · 09/03/2013 17:55

If you can't find paneer I reckon halloumi would be a half decent substitute.
