Mini cupcakes/fairy cakes advice needed

I want to make mini cupcakes because I think full size ones are too big for small kids, and I'm lazy and I want to make one lot of mixture go further. I'm thinking of sending some into school for dds birthday, and to make 30 cupcakes would require 3 full batches if I made full size ones, but if I make mini ones I can make 48 with 2 batches....if you can help!

I bought some mini cases, but they seem too mini - like for petit fours; I would say they were more like a quarter size than half the size. Can I get something in between? Do I have to go to a specialist shop? And do I need a special baking tray, or is there some other way of doing it?

Thanks for any advice!

The little ones are very little! Grin All i can suggest is the bog standard, white cases from any supermarket. They come in a pack of about 100 for 99p or something like that.

You'd need two teaspoons full of batter in each case and for 48 cakes, I would probably use 4 eggs and 8oz of everything else.

Oh, and I'd put the cakes in a muffin tin, so that the cases hold their shape whilst baking!

Thanks Maureen! Can I use an ordinary muffin tin, or do I have to buy a special one for small cupcakes?

No, I don't think so. The smaller fairy cake cases, should fit neatly in any muffin tin.

I know you can buy mini cupcake cases but it is tricky especially if you want certain colours. What I did was use the normal size cases, I think they were fairy cake cakes, then made cardboard collars for them to stop them flaring out.

Good luck.
