ceramic VS gas hob?

I relish the efficiency and control of a gas hob but ours is a nightmare to keep clean so it pretty much never is! Blush

Is it wrong to dream of an easy to clean ceramic one? Have you ever gone from gas to ceramic and regretted it?

The worst bit has to be the pan supports but ,I tell you, there are little burnt bits of yuck lurking in the burners that are laughing at me!...

Changed just before xmas to induction hob from gas - best thing ive ever done, its actually more controllable than gas, faster and the cleaning is just a wipe over with a cloth. Because it doesnt get very hot on the surface if a pan boils over you can just lift it up and wipe it up straight away then put the pan down and carry on cooking. Its fab, do it you wont regret it! Makes me shudder to think about my old gas hob now!

When we replaced our hob last year I wanted an induction, because of the controllability and cleaning. DH (who rarely does anymore than fry bacon) insisted (with a near toddler tantrum) we stuck with gas - does he clean his oily bacon grease off - does he heck. It looks grim already and its only a year old.Angry

I think induction is different and better than ceramic though?

What induction jobs have you got??

OneLittleBabyTerror · 23/04/2012 19:16

I'd love to have induction too Envy

Induction cooks by magnetism (not animal magnetism either), halogen is different.

Oooh I would love a hob that cooks by animal magnetism - tasty bits appearing all of a sudden...gravitating towards one charming, tall dark and handsome hot hob.

Having used gas, ceramic and induction, I wouldn't dream of swapping from gas to ceramic because a ceramic hob takes AGES to cool down and you can't regulate the heat instantly. With induction it is instant and is just brilliant... it is almost cool to the touch when you remove the pan, cleaning takes about 30 seconds and it is SO efficient. (My OH says the induction hob cooks the best steaks ever too)

Does anyone know if you can get a conventional cooker (gas or electric) with an induction hob?

OneLittleBabyTerror · 25/04/2012 11:34

Yes flubba. You can get free standing cooker with an induction cooktop. I've even seen one by belling! (They are the b&q kitchen appliance I believe).

Thanks OLBT I'll take a look. Have had my eye on a different belling model, so will check more out.
